The Beatles were great at making hit singles.  But then they realized they could fill entire record albums with their ideas.  And when they put their minds to do just that, they blew us all away with Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Countless other musicians took note, from The Moody Blues and Genesis to Pink Floyd and Yes to Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush.  And they started wondering what new directions they could explore.

Welcome to the world of prog rock, an absolutely optimistic form of music.  For all its elaborate ambitions and rambling noodling, these were creative souls trying to blaze new trails with their art.

For our first tribute of 2026, Great Moments in Vinyl digs deep into progressive rock to feature some of the milestone music of the genre as it evolved from the early ‘70s into the ‘80s.  And as always, we’ll give you a peek behind the scenes with tales and anecdotes about the songs and the artists who created them.
