Great Moments in Vinyl plays Motown

  • The Venue 21 South Broadway Aurora, IL (map)

Stevie Wonder.  Diana Ross.  The Four Tops.  Michael Jackson.  The Temptations.  Marvin Gaye.  Smokey Robinson.

Some of the biggest names in music were created by a record label from Detroit that set out to make songs for not just black audiences or white audiences, but for everyone.

That label, Motown Records, put 78 singles into the Top 10 in the ‘60s alone, earning it the richly deserved nickname “Hitsville U. S. A.”  And many of the artists who got their start under the Motown banner went on to enjoy careers that have lasted for decades.  All told, Motown Records has come to be regarded as one of the great business success stories of the 20th century.  Launched with an $800 loan from family members, founder Berry Gordy eventually sold his company almost 30 years later for $61 million.

Sunday, February 15th at The Venue in Aurora, Great Moments in Vinyl pays tribute to the amazing music of Motown by presenting a variety of the label’s best loved songs and artists performed by our biggest line up yet:  three vocalists, a four piece band, plus a two-piece horn section and two-piece string section.

Come enjoy the hits of Motown…and find out what was going on behind their creation.  Because when you know the stories, you hear more in the music.
