GMiV plays The Hits of 1975

  • Joliet Area Historical Museum 204 Ottawa St. Joliet, IL (map)

1975 brought us the summer of Jaws.  And then in the fall, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s NestAll in the Family was still the most popular show on TV followed closely by Rich Man, Poor Man and Laverne & Shirley.  NBC broadcast the first episode of their experimental new series Saturday Night Live.  The Vietnam War finally came to an end.  Bill Gates started a company that he named Microsoft.  The Pittsburgh Steelers trounced the Minnesota Vikings at the Super Bowl.  And the Cincinati Reds beat the Boston Red Sox in the World Series.

Other names in the news?  Patty Hearst.  Gerald Ford.  “Squeaky” Fromme.  Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.  The SS Edmund Fitzgerald.  And The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Meanwhile, if you had your radio tuned to a music station you would have heard Bruce Springsteen’s new album Born to Run, Paul McCartney’s follow up to Band on the Run, more chart-topping hits from Elton John, Paul Simon’s Grammy winning LP Still Crazy After All These Years, The Bee Gees first R’n’B hit, the Van McCoy single that launched the disco era, guitar hero Jeff Beck finally getting the recognition he deserved, plus hit singles by The Doobie Brothers, the Eagles, America, and Queen.

And that’s just scratching the vinyl surface.  We’ll have more hit songs and highlights to treat you to plus a handful of surprises when Great Moments in Vinyl pays tribute to The Hits of 1975. Mark your calendar for Friday, November 21st at the Joliet Area Historical Museum and come join us. It'll be an evening of great songs, great stories.
