A few stories about Chicago's Terry Kath

And here are even more things you might not know about the group Chicago.

Terry Kath loved the sound of the instrumental group The Ventures as well as the solos George Benson would come up with on his jazz records.  It was the music of both of those artists that inspired Terry Kath to take up the guitar.

The story goes that when Jimi Hendrix first heard Chicago perform at the Whisky a Go Go, he told saxophonist Walt Parazaider, “Your guitarist is better than me.”  But the part of the story that often doesn’t get repeated is that both Hendrix and his drummer Mitch Mitchell came backstage and told the whole group, “You’re the best band I’ve ever heard in my life.”

And even an unbridled rock guitarist such as Joe Walsh once marveled that Terry “had a sound that no other guitar player could get.  How in the world did he get a guitar to sound like that?”

Come enjoy the music with us when Great Moments in Vinyl plays Chicago at The Venue in Aurora, June 29th.  Great songs.  Great stories.
