The Kinks

Great Moments in Vinyl plays The Kinks

We’re lucky we ever got to know The Kinks.  Back in 1964, their first single barely made a dent in the UK charts.  Their second single didn’t even register—one journalist reported it only sold 127 copies.  It’s no surprise that The Kinks’ record company informed the band they would cancel their contract if the third single wasn’t a success.

But then Ray Davies and his brother Dave came up with “You Really Got Me,” and the rest is history.

It’s a recurring pattern in the band’s career:  stretches of toiling in near anonymity with occasional moments of heart stopping brilliance.

For this tribute, Great Moments in Vinyl will showcase the dozen or more hit singles The Kinks earned over their 30 year career.  Then we’ll take the time to savor what makes a Kinks album so irresistible to their loyal fans as we perform all the songs from their 1967 release Something Else by The Kinks, an album that features songs that inspired both David Bowie and The Jam to record their own versions.
