Well, I didn't know that!
When Great Moments in Vinyl puts together a tribute, we’re not just learning how the songs go, we’re also reading up on the band we’re featuring. And sometimes as we research a show, we run across something we didn’t already know.
For example:
That three-piece horn section of theirs occasionally made guest appearances. You can hear their distinctive sound on the Three Dog Night hit, “Celebrate.”
Chicago was originally scheduled to play Woodstock, but promoter Bill Graham booked them to perform in San Francisco that weekend so he could put Carlos Santana and his band on stage instead. It was an appearance that catapulted Santana’s career.
And in terms of record sales, Chicago is one of the most successful American bands of all time with over 100 million copies sold. That makes them second only to another quintessential American band, The Beach Boys.
Want to hear more? Join us June 29th when Great Moments in Vinyl plays Chicago at The Venue in Aurora. Great songs. Great stories.
